11+ Daily is now set up for the Gloucestershire FSCE test
The seven Gloucestershire grammar schools have a new 11+ test, the Gloucestershire FSCE test, sat in July 2027 at the end of Year 5. It asks for different things from the usual 11+, so 11+ Daily now has a version built for it: 11+ For Gloucestershire FSCE.
The new Gloucestershire FSCE test, in brief
The Gloucestershire FSCE test replaces the GL Assessment test for the county’s seven grammar schools. It is written for them by FSCE and sat on Saturday 3 July 2027, at the end of Year 5. It has three papers:
- The Adventure Paper: English and Maths, answered by multiple choice.
- The Beacon Paper: English and Maths, answered in short written answers.
- The Compass Paper: questions from the other school subjects, from History and Geography to Science and Music.
There is no Verbal or Non-Verbal Reasoning, and nothing beyond the Year 5 curriculum. Practice for the usual 11+ would spend much of your child’s time on things this test never asks.
What 11+ For Gloucestershire FSCE gives your child
11+ For Gloucestershire FSCE is 11+ Daily set up for this one test: the same app at the same price, with every question chosen for the three papers.
English and Maths, for the Adventure and Beacon Papers. Reading with passages, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and spelling, and the Year 5 Maths curriculum, from place value and fractions to measures, geometry and statistics, asked as problems in context.
Across the Curriculum, for the Compass Paper. Questions in the nine school subjects the Compass Paper draws on beyond English and Maths: Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Languages, Music, Physical Education and Science.
Both ways of answering. English and Maths come as multiple choice, like the Adventure Paper, and as short written answers in boxes, one letter or digit per box, like the Beacon Paper.
Every question is original to 11+ Daily and aimed at Year 5 or below.

Ten minutes a day, chosen for your child
Each day the app picks your child's practice from their own answers. A question they get wrong comes back until they get it right, and the parents area shows what has been covered and how accurately, so you can see the work adding up.
Try two questions from the app
A Maths question answered in boxes, as the Beacon Paper asks for it, and one from Across the Curriculum, practice for the Compass Paper. Answer them and you will see what your child sees: whether each is right, and why.
Measurement
Write your answer in the boxes.
A sports match started at 2:30 pm and lasted 1 hour 40 minutes. What time did it end? Give your answer using the 24-hour clock.
Computing
Choose the correct answer.
Poppy drew this flowchart for making toast, but when she follows it, more and more bread ends up in the toaster. Which arrow is in the wrong place?
How to start
It takes one setting, and the app asks for it straight after you sign up.
- Start the free trial. 14 days of everything, no card needed.
- Answer “When is the exam?” The app asks straight after the welcome screen. Choose July 2027 and set the exam board to FSCE Gloucestershire.
- Confirm. From then on, your child’s Today screen offers English, Maths and Across the Curriculum.
Already use 11+ Daily? On the web, open Settings and then Exam. In the iPhone, iPad or Android app, open Profile and then the exam card. Set the exam board to FSCE Gloucestershire. Progress on 11+ For Gloucestershire FSCE starts fresh, and what your child has done so far is kept if you ever switch back.
Why start now
Registration for the test opens at 12 noon on Monday 8 February 2027 and closes at 12 noon on Friday 19 March 2027; check the schools’ admissions pages before you rely on the dates. A few minutes a day from now gives your child the whole of Year 5 to build up, rather than a rush in the summer term.
The 11+ For Gloucestershire FSCE page has the three papers, the key dates and a question from each subject to try. We check the questions in rounds, as we do across 11+ Daily, and we will update this post and our guide to the Gloucestershire FSCE test for 2028 entry whenever FSCE or the schools publish anything new.
Good to know
- Nobody knows what is on the paper, us included. FSCE publishes no past papers and changes the questions every year, so our questions are practice for what the test is built on, not a preview of it.
- The real test is on paper, with the instructions read out by a recorded voice. Go through the children’s familiarisation guide with your child at least once so the format is not a surprise.
- It is for the Gloucestershire FSCE test only, and it is not endorsed by FSCE or the schools. No practice can promise a place: 11+ Daily makes sure the work happens, a little every day.
